Rusty Ismail shares on Nostalgic Moment Photography
I consider myself to be a wedding photojournalist. I love capturing real moments and staying out of the way while I work since the best photos are usually taken when the subject is at their most natural. The only issue I had with this title is that every guest at a wedding with a camera could be considered a photojournalist. We are all taking pictures of the same event and telling a story with our images. I wanted a title that reflected not only my style, but my technique and quality. ?
Recently I heard the term “commercial wedding photographer” and I realized that this was a better title. “Commercial wedding photography” takes “photojournalism” and incorporates a level of quality in one’s work. It’s easy to document a wedding with images, it’s something much more to do it in a beautiful way. I want my clients to have magazine quality images that invoke their deepest thoughts, feelings and emotion when they see the images….
I shoot each and every wedding like my life depends on it. It’s my passion. Choosing me for your special event means a lot. It’s my deepest honor to be part of what is arguably the most important day of your life and capture those nostalgic moments that last a lifetime.

How did you get started into wedding photography?
I am a self taught photographer who went into the fray of wedding photography at end 2012.. I was asked by my cousin to photograph his wedding as he did not have any photographer on the groom’s side. After my first coverage, his best man immediately looked me up and decided to engage me as his wedding photographer. As I have had extensive experience with graphics editing, and through the encouragement of my wife and family, i established Nostalgic Moment Photography in February 2013 specialising in wedding photography and never looked back ever since.
What is your wedding photography style?
I am a storyteller and moments kind-of-guy photographer. I prefer taking a journalistic approach to wedding Photography and simplistic/minimalist style in album designs. Simple photographs that focus solely on one subject or emotion are the best photos in my point of view. It is also proven that minimalism does not go out of style and is very pleasing to the human eye. However, I also may take a fine art photographic approach when my creativity kicks in. With that being said, I also strongly believe that certain posed shots are crucial as well as this is usually a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is my duty to make the most out of that shot.
What is your most popular wedding photography package and price?
My most popular package is my Nostalgia package priced at S17XX.It includes photography coverage of the event for up to 10 hours with an Actual Day outdoor photo shoot at one location. 240 4R prints with customised Slot-In Album
comes with two S8R Table-Top Frames and one 16” x 24” Canvas Frame
Wedding couple meetup sessions?
I usually have a first meet up session with my clients to discuss what they want, advise them on what to expect on their wedding day and after confirmation of the details, I meet them again for the second meet up for confirmation and contract signing. A month before their wedding, I will give them a heads up and ask them for the itinery.
Do you cover weddings beyond the shores of Singapore?
Yes. I have covered a post wedding shoot in Dubai before and are intending to do more overseas weddings. Customers would have to pay for air fare and accommodation for me and my 2nd photographer on top of the package price extended to them.
One wedding tip you would give to couples for the actual wedding day?
Get a good professional photographer who they are first and foremost comfortable with and can produce quality images for their wedding day
Should customers decide to take up a pre-wedding photo shoot package/ video shoot package, how long before the actual wedding day will the pre-wedding photo/video be shot? And how soon will the pre-wedding album/ pre wedding video be ready?
It can be any time between up to the customers convenience. However i usually do it within 2 months before or two months after the wedding. The pre wedding album will be ready within one month or two depending on the complexity of the album design.
How many photographs will customers receive from the actual day wedding?
It depends on the package signup. It can range from 120-360 fully retouched and color graded photos.
How long after the wedding day can customers expect to receive their edited actual day wedding photographs/ videos?
As I do full retouching, normal slot in albums will take between two weeks to a month where as flush mounts or photobooks will take between one month or two depending on the complexity of the design.
How far should customers book in advance? And, How long will you stay for on the wedding day?
Customers should book about a year or six months in advance. I’ve had customers who booked me one and a half year before their weddings and some who managed to get me on an available slot on a last minute two weeks notice.
